Job Description:

We’re looking for an experienced Editor with exceptional journalistic and digital platform skills for our award-winning and industry-leading Pro Builder (PB) and Custom Builder Online (CBO) media brands. The Editor is responsible for overseeing editorial products across all media platforms to ensure the brands meet their editorial missions to provide the highest quality, audience-driven content possible.

What You’ll Do:

• Ensures that the brands meet their editorial missions to provide the highest quality, audience-driven content possible.

• Develops and maintains the annual editorial calendars for CBO and products coverage for PB for review by the Editorial Director; shares with other staff, sources, and audiences at their discretion

• Researches, writes, identifies freelancers, assigns, edits and/or approves all articles for the brand(s) across all media platforms (print, websites, Idea Homes, e-newsletters, e-blasts, social media, broadcast (videos/podcasts)), as assigned.

• Optimizes CBO and PB products content for SEO, monitors performance on a monthly basis, and adjust accordingly in collaboration with the SEO director

• Edits/proofreads a weekly e-newsletter for CBO

• Maintains relationships and a reputation as an expert with key industry contacts and internal and external content channels by:

  • Speaking at or otherwise participating in industry or hosted events

  • Judging the Best of IBS and promoting participation via social media

  • Managing and producing the annual Most Valuable Products (MVP) awards program

• Oversees the performance and maintenance of the CBO website (with Editorial Director and Content Manager)

• Manages the daily activities/assignments of the brands’ associate editor to achieve strategic and content goals

• Manages a brand-specific freelance budget determined by the Editorial Director; collects and approves invoices from commissioned freelancers and other contributors and shares with the Editorial Director for accounting purposes

• Participates in the planning, programming, and execution of the annual Under 40 Leadership Summit; serves as a panel moderator and co-host

• Works with editorial director/publisher to develop brand strategy, and the development and implementation of new editorial initiatives, including an annual IdeaDemonstration Home program

• Travels to and reports from/on industry conferences, trade shows, and hosted events

• Meets weekly and ad-hoc with Editorial Director

• Other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking for:

Required:

• Four-year college degree in journalism (English or related field) or equivalent experience.

• 5+ years editorial/media experience, preferably in magazine editorial, print and digital

• Strong interpersonal communication and management abilities; attention to detail and deadlines

• Excellent research/interviewing, writing, and editing skills

• Proficiency with various Google products, namely: Gmail,, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Sheets.

• Experience with InCopy, Premiere Pro Rush and iMovie, Drupal 10, MS Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat

• Understanding of and proficiency with SEO best practices and some HTML experience

• Skill in use of general office equipment including fax, calculator, copier, computers, desktop publishing software, video and digital cameras.

Preferred (a plus):

• Prior managerial experience a plus

• Experience with SEMrush SEO tools a plus
